University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest is the oldest and most prestigious engineering school in Romania. Its traditions are related to the establishment, in 1818, by Gheorghe Lazar, of the first technical colleges with tuition in Romanian language at St. Sava Monastery in Bucharest, which in 1832 was reorganized into the College of Saint Sava.
University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest (U.P.B.) assumes the task of preparing specialists in various technical fields, able to use scientific, technical, cultural- humanistic, valuable knowledge to contribute to technological , economic and socio-cultural progress of contemporary Romanian society and the world. UPB ensures the implementation of educational performance, developed and perfected through a complex research, continuing the tradition of the Polytechnic School of Bucharest, according to the requirements and resources offered by modern information society.
It aims to create new technical university profile, promoting forms of training adapted to a society full of competition, subject to integration with the International and European Community. Its main mission is to train engineer able to adapt to the market economy and new technologies that have economic and managerial knowledge and to promote the principles of sustainable development and environmental protection. For this he must be made by the modern principle of direct participation in its formative path choice, to be included in a learning process that would provide real opportunities to free market competition on employment.
