The INSEED project aims to create a modern framework for training and skills forming in higher education in science, design and services management (SPMS) and to promote innovation in service industry based on a model of open, continuous education and cloud type distributed computing infrastructure with virtualized resources and accesible as services, interconnected at European structures.

Cloud

On December 13, 2011 - IBM and the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania implemented the first cloud computing laboratory dedicated to universities in Romania. A consortium of the University Politehnica of Bucharest, "Transilvania" University of Brasov, Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest and University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" created a new model of education and academic curriculum in Services Science, providing to approximately 12,500 students cloud platform based courses and laboratories through virtualization.

Cloud computing is a computing model that delivers, in this context, IT products through internet services specifically for education and training. IBM CloudBurst solution provides a new consumption and delivery model inspired by internet service that highlights the following key features that education services will benefit : on-demand services; permanent access to the network; location independent resource concentration, rapid elasticity, reduced funding for public universities. From an academic user experience perspective, this solution is a model of standardized products provided fast and flexible and quickly and easily accessed. In terms of infrastructure management and service delivery methods, the solution presents virtualized resources, being managed as a single resource and providing elastic scalability services, advanced security and mobility.

A new educational model that includes 16 newly certified master programs was developed in the following sectors: computer services, IT services, service oriented architectures for Manufacturing and Supply, Health, e-Government Services, Software, renewable energy, smart grid , Business Management and Telecommunication Services. University portfolio will be enriched with 28 new courses available to approximately 12,500 students, helping them to acquire capabilities in advanced software technologies, especially cloud computing, Tivoli and Websphere - for which there is an increasing demand from Romanian employers.

Cloud Computing platform allows academics to become more systematic about innovation in IT services. Improving education is achieved by balancing the components of training curricula and curricular development area. Service science projects implemented in Romania, based on infrastructure cloudburst is an example in this respect. The project developed a new model of open and continuous education with a flexible institutional framework for initial and ongoing training in the creation, implementation, operation and management of services systems based on IT for the fields of health, administration, distribution of electricity production. Such education services are benefitting from cloud platform and will be replicated in all institutions in the country.

Cloud solution makes University's teaching, research and development activities more effective and sustainable - can distribute knowledge and efforts to create content that can be available and affordable as education services through virtualization. Courses and laboratories are managed by a team from the University of Bucharest and Brasov. The project also allows the university to apply for inclusion in the Cloud Academy and launch partnerships with European institutions for collaborative development in IT services domain and research in the consortium. We created an environment of knowledge in cooperation with companies in IT services in universities to promote service solutions using IT infrastructure.

ROEDU-NET support for CLOUD platform

INSEED Cloud Platform, with its three components, E-learning, laboratories in CLoud and SSKE, benefits of Internet services assured inside of ROEDU-NET universitary network, at the level of the node from Politehnica University of Bucharest. ROEDU-NET, part of NREN (National Research and Education Network) involved in European projects regarding Web services and distributed communication infrastructure (for example Geant).
